Robert Redford was in a movie more 30 years ago, "The Candidate," that mocked American politics. In it Redford was dominated by idiotic little slogans, most notably "Bill McKay: the better way." Currently, Bruce Hagensen, a candidate for county commissioner, must believe in "the politics of nothing," as his ad campaign slogan is, "We can do better."

Steve Stuart, on the other hand, is proving he will do as he said. Not with gimmicks and obtuse sayings, but with real deeds. He said he'll make our education better and delivered with a partnership of parks and schools. His leadership accomplishments also include a countywide conservation program that will give generations pride in our community with acres of natural corridors.

I hope the community recognizes Stuart's proven leadership and not be misled by his opponent's empty smile and hollow slogan. Stuart is real and makes things happen. Re-elect him in November.
